Illeana Gómez

International dancer who demonstrates mastery

Born in New Mexico, Illeana has a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and for some years she has been completely dedicated to her training as a dancer in different cities in Spain. She has studied with the best flamenco artists and teachers, including Juana Amaya, Farruquito, Carmen Ledesma, Alfonso Losa, Jose Maya, Adela Campallo, Yolanda Heredia, among others.

She has participated in the most important dance competitions, obtaining outstanding positions. Illeana has toured prestigious theaters and festivals showing her art around the world. Some of them are: Joyce Theater in New York, dance festival: Jacob’s Pillow (USA), and Alburquerque Flamenco Festival (USA).

In 2010 she was awarded a Master’s Degree in Dance, being the first student in US history to obtain this degree with a focus on flamenco. She currently works in different tablaos in Madrid sharing the stage with great artists.

Live music is thriving in Madrid, from classical and opera to blues, rock and jazz, but the speciality is flamenco. It may seem odd that the music of the south is so important up here, but there are two reasons for that: first, a lot of Andalusians have made their homes here, and second, any flamenco artist worth his salt wants to play the big tablaos — dinner shows — in el capital. Cardamomo is the real deal, catering to a crowd that knows its bulerias from its soleas. There are three sessions a night, at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm, and, obviously, you’ll go to the latter.
