Álvaro Lamela

Born in San Fernando, Cádiz, Álvaro Lamela is a flamenco percussionist who from a very young age demonstrated an innate connection with music.

At just 2 years old he already had sticks in his hands, following the rhythm and pulse of the flamenco tradition that flows in his homeland. At the age of 13 he began his professional career, perfecting his art in the most prominent flamenco tablaos and stages in Spain.

Álvaro has had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of the greatest flamenco dancers. His versatility and deep knowledge of rhythm have allowed him to accompany figures such as José Maya, El Barullo, Juan Ramírez, Juan José Villar and José Escarpín, among others. His presence in the tablaos has been constant, consolidating his reputation as one of the most sought-after percussionists on the flamenco scene.

In addition to his work in tablaos, Álvaro Lamela has brought his talent to collaborations with renowned artists of flamenco and Spanish music. He has worked with Niña Pastori, Chaboli, Montse Cortés, Mara Rey, Fernando Soto and Antonio Cortés, artists with whom he has shared his passion and experience, enriching his career and leaving his mark on important productions.

Live music is thriving in Madrid, from classical and opera to blues, rock and jazz, but the speciality is flamenco. It may seem odd that the music of the south is so important up here, but there are two reasons for that: first, a lot of Andalusians have made their homes here, and second, any flamenco artist worth his salt wants to play the big tablaos — dinner shows — in el capital. Cardamomo is the real deal, catering to a crowd that knows its bulerias from its soleas. There are three sessions a night, at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm, and, obviously, you’ll go to the latter.
