Antonio Maya ‘Salvaje’

Percusionista de Granada con gran destreza.

Antonio Jiménez Maya ‘Salvaje’ (Savage) was born in Granada in 1981.

Son of Mayte Maya and grandson of María ‘la Coneja’ and Juan Cantero, he has a spectacular skill in dance accompaniment. He comes from a wide family of artists, from guitarists, singers, dancers and percussionists. Antonio develops flamenco percussion in conjunction with other disciplines such as jazz and soul.

At the age of 12 he began to develop in the world of percussion, working with Juanele Maya. Since then, he has performed in several tablaos in Madrid such as Casa Patas, Tablao Flamenco 1911, Café de Chinitas, Cardamomo… He has also performed in the most important theatres all over Spain and has toured countries such as the United States, Japan and other countries in Europe and Asia. He also formed a percussion group with Latin rhythms Gipsy latin percussion formed by 4 percussionists, a dancer and a singer.

He has collaborated with great artists such as Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés, Juana Amaya, Manuela Carrasco, Rafael Amargo, Juan Andrés Maya, Cristóbal Reyes, María Juncal and many others. He currently lives in Madrid, combining his experience as a performer with his work as a teacher.
