100% Accessible Experiences at Cardamomo

Flamenco is not seen, it is felt: 100% Accessible Experiences at Cardamomo

At Cardamomo, flamenco is not something that happens “up there” on stage while you watch from your seat. As the World’s First Inclusive Tablao, we have transformed our usual activities into sensory journeys where hands, hearing, and smell take the lead. We have removed visual barriers so the “duende” can enter through the skin. This is how we adapt our passion:

1. Dance Masterclass: Human Geometry

How do you learn the elegance of a “desplante” without seeing it? In our classes, we replace sight with touch and sound.

  • Learning with hands: Teachers guide students through physical contact, allowing them to feel the exact elbow angle and wrist rotation. It’s about learning the structure of dance from the bone.

  • Footwork as a compass: Students don’t copy a step; they replicate a sound. The teacher marks the rhythm on the wood, and the student learns to “read” the power and tempo through acoustic impact and floor vibration.

2. Sangria Workshop: Hearing and Smell Rule

Making artisanal sangria is an exercise in sensory balance.

  • Pouring tone: We teach how to measure quantities by sound. The “glug-glug” of the wine changes its musical note as it fills up the pitcher.

  • Aromatic memory: Fruit and cinnamon selection is done through touch and aroma.

3. Cajon Workshop: Vibration in the Chest

The cajon is the ultimate inclusive instrument because it doesn’t need sheet music; it needs a heartbeat.

  • Tactile map of the wood: The cajon lid has specific zones; we teach how to locate bass and treble through touch.

  • Impact rhythm: By sitting on the instrument, the student feels the teacher’s vibration in their own body. The rhythm is absorbed through pure physics.

4. The Tactile Station: The 5 Pillars of Flamenco

To complete the experience, we have created a permanent Sensory Station with real objects, Braille plates, and QR codes with audio description:

  • The Shoe: Feel the row of polished nails on the toe and heel.

  • The Castanets: Explore the fine wood and the difference between “female” and “male” pieces.

  • The Manila Shawl: Trace the hand-embroidered silk relief and feel the weight of its fringes.

  • The Guitar: Touch the cypress wood and the vibration of the strings.

  • The Dress: Touch the architecture of the ruffles and the density of the fabrics.

Inclusion is not a sign on the door. It’s that you sit down and, finally, flamenco stops being something you are told about and becomes something you do yourself.
