The verses were sung while women swayed on a swing, which was traditionally called a &#8220;bamba&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The transition to flamenco:<\/b> It was the legendary singer <b data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"56\">La Ni\u00f1a de los Peines<\/b> (Pastora Pav\u00f3n) who took it upon herself to &#8220;flamenco-ize&#8221; these folk melodies in the first half of the 20th century, bringing them from pure oral tradition to the professional flamenco repertoire.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"5,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The rhythm:<\/b> Musically, bamberas are usually adapted to the twelve-beat rhythm of the <b data-path-to-node=\"5,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"85\">sole\u00e1<\/b> (or sole\u00e1 por buler\u00edas). This gives them a majestic, solemn rhythm with great depth.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,3,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"5,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The lyrics:<\/b> Traditionally, they are stanzas of four eight-syllable verses. The theme usually revolves around romance, jealousy, courtship and, of course, direct references to the swaying of the swing and the
